St. Stephen’s Elementary Faith Formation seeks to hand on the faith to our children in Grades 1-5 in a safe yet vibrant community. We have a great team of catechists, many of whom are teachers and many of whom are not, that all possess a love of and for children and desire for them to know the greatest love of all – that which Jesus has for them. Elementary Faith Formation sets the foundation of our faith in the hearts of our children by teaching:
- The basics of the Bible
- The Holy Trinity
- The Paschal Mystery (suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus)
- The 7 Sacraments
- The Church as the Body of Christ
- The Church Year
- Lives of the Saints
- Catholic Social Teaching
We do this by utilizing RCL Benziger textbooks called Be My Disciples. We also use resources from around the world including websites such as Catholic Icing, Look to Him and Be Radiant, Catholic All Year, and Pinterest. We in the Faith Formation Ministry at St. Stephen’s also seek to build a good habit in the children of prayer, the Eucharist, and Reconciliation. We encourage families to bring their children to Mass every weekend and we also go to Mass with the Parish Community one-to-two times a year. Each class in grades 3-5 receives the Sacrament of Reconciliation once a year during class time as well.
We would love to have you join our Elementary Faith Formation Community. We meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:15-7:30 p.m. (families choose the day that work best for them), and sessions begin in mid-September and go through the first week of May, culminating with a May crowning of Mary. Registration begins in April and are accepted throughout the Spring and Summer. Please contact Katie Gebhard , or 763-712-7439 if you would like more information on Elementary Faith Formation.
