This past Pentecost (June 8-9, 2019), the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis began a Synod process. Simply put, a diocesan synod is a coming together of the local Church. According to Canon 460, a diocesan synod is an “assembly … of selected priests and other members of Christ’s faithful of a particular Church which, for the good of the whole diocesan community, assists the diocesan bishop.” The goal of the Archdiocesan Synod is to help Archbishop Hebda discern, through a consultative process, the pastoral priorities of our local Church today – and into the near future. Your participation, as the Catholic faithful, is key to a successful Synod. You are invited to participate by offering your prayers, pastoral concerns, and ideas for moving this Archdiocese forward. The Synod will take place at Pentecost in 2021. Plans are well underway and St. Stephen’s parish will be hosting training and listening events this fall and winter in support of the preparation for the Synod.
We are currently seeking nominations of people to serve as our parish ambassadors to the Synod. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else, please contact Marisa Moreno , St. Stephen’s Administrative Manager, or call her at 763-712-7438. We are looking for a diverse group of people to represent our community. If you feel you have the time to meet monthly until the synod, and the desire to contribute insights, please step forward to serve our parish and the diocese in this effort. There will be training events in the early fall, praying for and promoting the Synod within the parish, attending a local listening event, and helping to form parish small groups to gather and disseminate information to the parish.
