Typically the third week of July each summer. The M Squad is a holistic opportunity of real growth for middle school student with high school students as team leaders. Participants will spend the first three days on retreat, growing in leadership training and getting to know their faith better in a fun environment with their friends. The St. Stephen’s Youth Ministry (SSYM) teens and the adult CORE Team along with staff and volunteers from the parish will be in charge of running and supervising this dynamic kick-off. Following the retreat, the M Squad participants will bring their training to real-life practice in a five-day, Vacation Bible School (VBS) day-camp style approach.
Each day of VBS, M Squad teams will begin work serving our pre-school and elementary children. In the morning, the M Squad will lead a group of 5-7 children through the VBS activities followed by lunch which is provided every day. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the M Squad participants will have time for small group reflection, leadership development, powerful prayer experiences, and fun activities until 4:00 p.m. On Tuesday and Thursday afternoon they will have a short debriefing period before going home at 2:00 p.m. to rest up.
Using a mentoring model, this experience offers your middle school student an opportunity to learn leadership skills that will help them expand their gifts, grow in confidence, and serve the Church in a way that is suitable to their stage of development.
