Interested in Becoming Catholic?

All those interested in becoming Catholic are invited to our first RCIA class on Wednesday, September 22.

Please join St. Stephen's for a Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) information session on September 22 from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm in FCC 10. If you are interested in starting the RCIA process or wish to continue, please RSVP Faith for Life Director, Maredith Toweh.

What is RCIA?

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process that invites interested persons to consider the Catholic faith. This process is a journey that includes study, exploration, faith-sharing, and discernment. It is a series of generally weekly gatherings culminating with the celebration of the Easter Vigil.

Who is RCIA for?

  • Adults 18 years of age and older in need of Baptism and full initiation into the Catholic Church.
  • Adults 18 years of age and older, baptized in another Christian tradition who desire to become Catholic.
  • Adults 18 years of age and older, baptized Catholic, and in need of First Communion and/or Confirmation.

How does it work?

  • The way of becoming a Catholic Christian follows a process of journeying through different periods of formation. Each period is a span of time devoted to formation in doctrine, prayer, liturgy, and Christian living.
  • The entire Catholic Community of St. Stephen’s will support those in the RCIA on their journey of faith through prayers and by example.
  • Each person in the process will have a sponsor who will walk with them along the way. Sponsors minister to participants by sharing their own faith, their hopes for the participant, and the love they have for Christ as they deal with everyday life.
  • Each phase of the RCIA is marked by beautiful rites/rituals at key points in the journey towards conversion and true discipleship in Christ.
