Fr James Bernard
My name is Fr. James Bernard, and I am excited to begin my priestly ministry at St. Stephen’s! I have fond memories of riding my unicycle in the Anoka Halloween parade each year! I grew up in New Brighton, and at 42 years old, am the youngest of three boys. My parents were both teachers in the Mounds View school district.nI attended college at St. Cloud State University, and it was there where I received my calling. Around the time I started attending daily mass in college, a handful of people from different parts of my life asked me if I had ever thought of being a priest, or suggested that I would make a good priest. At that point, I knew in my heart what God wanted me to do.
I finished college, worked for two years, and then went back to St. Cloud State for a graduate degree. This led to eight years of teaching English as a Second Language. I love learning about other cultures and enjoyed this career, but God remained persistent through all the years, and finally, after about 15 years of trying my way, I finally succumbed to the Lord’s call and entered the St. Paul Seminary. I enjoy sports, traveling, and brewing beer. I look forward to getting to know all of you!
St. Stephen, pray for us!
