What are Prayer Shawls? The prayer shawls are also called, “A Hug from Heaven” as St. Stephen’s walks alongside our families during difficult times to assure them of our prayers.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry of St. Stephen’s began in November 2005. Care and love of knitting (and crochet) have been combined into a wonderful ministry that reaches those needing comfort and solace. Many blessings are knitted into every shawl with prayers for the ultimate recipient. Intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl and upon completion, each prayer shawl is blessed by our Priests before making its way to a new owner.
Some uses for the prayer shawl:
- Newly Baptised
- Comfort after a loss
- During an illness or recovery
- Bridal shower gift
We meet on the First Friday of the month in the Refuge to share stories and bring in finished projects.
If you know someone who could use the comfort of a warm, cozy shawl, please contact the Parish Office.
Would you like to help? We're looking for individuals who can knit or crochet to create prayer shawls, which are offered to those in need. This is a wonderful way to serve while helping others. For anyone interseted in participating in the Prayer Shawl Ministry, wheher individually or as a group, please contact the Parish Office at 763-421-2471.
